New Mexico 2012 - Small Museum Development Program

Economic Development for Cultural Institutions

The mission of the Small Museum Development Program is to deliver services aimed at improving the infrastructure of small museums in New Mexico so that they might become greater economic contributors in their communities and increase visitation for the state's centennial in 2012.

Constituency: Any of the 170+ small and rural museums across New Mexico

Programs: The Small Museum Development Program is charged with assisting small museums to improve aspects of their museums' operations and administration. The scope includes:

  • Preservation plans to protect collections

  • Facilities improvements to maintain museum environments properly

  • Professional development of museum staff and directors

  • Fiscal responsibility in order to maintain solvency

  • General outreach for all the museums in the state through workshops and communications via a listserv and website
